Coinbase is among the most used crypto exchanges. Since late 2018 they started offering more ERC20 based tokens and the expectation is that they will offer more and more altcoins into the future. Coinbase is one of the more important base exchanges to use as they offer a reliable gateway from crypto to fiat and the other way around. If you're ready to up your game a notch, you can easily start using Coinbase Pro as well.

Next to Coinbase, Kraken offers a good and reliable exchange. Their user interface is a bit of a maze, even a hacker would get lost, but their new trading and charting tool which is in Beta for over a year now, is a lot better.

Deribit is the first platform that offers options on bitcoin and ethereum. For the most volatile asset class this could be your place to go to set up some hedges to mitigate the risk of a severe bear market. Next to that they also offer futures to take leveraged positions.

Coinmerce combines the ease of trading through a broker with the tight bid-ask spread of an exchange. This is the place to go if you are looking for an easy place to get exposure, while being offered very competitive prices.

Crypto2Cash does exactly what the name indicates; it offers you a gateway from crypto to fiat and offers a great selection of currencies to convert to. So, if you are looking for something else than EUR or USD, this might be the place to go. It's the only platform I know that offers such a range of fiat currencies to convert to.
